Located about 20 km south downtown Santiago at the mouth of the Cajón de Maipo (Maipo Canyon), lies the heart of Chile’s wine production. This region boasts a nearly ideal climate for winemaking, with well-drained volcanic, fluvial soils and high level of solar radiation. It’s possible to visit well-known wineries, being Concha y Toro the most famous (founded in 1883), where the visitor can enjoy exquisite Chilean wines, as well as visiting Pirque Valley with its old ranches and agriculture fields.
A fascinating half day excursion to the Maipo canyon, visiting Pirque valley and its old ranches, a zone of agricultural and milk products, continuing into the mountain range which has an unforgettable landscape. By crossing the Maipo River, you will arrive at Las Vertientes resort, a residential sector of small summer farms. Later, the tour continues to the famous Concha y Toro wine yard, where a guide will introduce you to the wine making process, relate legends about the wine and take you to visit to the old cellars and wine drums.
